Cyclist's Bone Strength

Duration: 20 minutes

Here is something many cyclists don't know: because cycling is non-weight-bearing, dedicated cyclists often have lower bone density than other athletes, sometimes lower than non-athletes. Bone is living tissue that grows stronger in response to impact and heavy load, and a bike provides neither.

This routine gives your skeleton the stimulus it misses: hops and jumps send bone-building impact through your legs and hips, while the calf raise and step work load the shin and thigh bones directly. The multi-directional landings of the side hop and skater jump strengthen bone in more than one plane.

Build up gradually: start with small, controlled hops and land softly, and let Calistree increase the volume as your legs adapt. If you have a known bone condition, check with your doctor first.
