Technique

  1. Kneel on the ground, with the toes tucked under and the hands on your hips.
  2. Inhale, engage the legs, lengthen the spine and lift the head and chest upward.
  3. Exhale, tilt your head backward, lift your chest upward, and reach back to place your hands on the heels with the fingertips facing back.
  4. Inhale and come back up, lifting the head last.

Form tips

  1. For tight shoulders and upper back, keep the chin lowered toward the chest.
  2. Press into the hands in order to lift up the chest.
  3. Keep the lower back in a more or less neutral position, focusing on extending the upper back.
  4. Pull the shoulder blades toward each other and downward.
