Technique

  1. Start by standing with a weight or band (secured under your foot) in one hand, palm facing your body, and feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Keep a slight bend in your elbow and lift the dumbbell directly to the side until it reaches shoulder height.
  3. Control the descent back to the starting position and repeat the movement.

Form tips

  1. Maintain a neutral spine and avoid leaning to the opposite side during the lift.
  2. Focus on lifting the weight using the side shoulder muscles, not momentum.
