Technique

  1. Begin in L-base , with the flyer standing to one side of the base's hips.
  2. Begin with a crossed Hand-to-hand grip and create a hip pocket ( Hip pockets ) to start in Side star .
  3. Once stable, release the hands that are on the same side as the base's occupied leg and reconnect them on the outside of the base's legs, while the base rotates the flyer to bring their high hip to their other foot, effectively creating a Reverse bird .
  4. The flyer will drop the outside leg and open their hips to face the base, while rotating onto the base's other foot, coming into a side star on the other side.
  5. Release the hand grip on the same side of the base that the star is on, and reconnect it at the front of the base's legs.
  6. The flyer will bring their head low to the base's bellybutton, and the top leg goes over their body and onto the base's free leg, creating a second hip pocket. At this point you should be in Straddle bat .
  7. Pushing at the hands, the flyer will then come back up into a side star, dropping the bottom leg and restarting the sequence.
  8. To exit, come back to side star and step out of it.

Form tips

  1. When the flyer is creating a hip pocket ( Hip pockets ), they should be driving the tops of both thighs into the base's feet, and really flexing the Quadriceps of the bottom leg during the side star. This will encourage a strong shelf for the base to place their foot.
  2. When rotating the flyer, the base should think about pointing their toes inward to bring the flyer to their other leg, and receive the flyer with the toes pointed inward.
  3. The base should bend the knee slightly to receive the flyer gently.
  4. Flyer should be mindful to keep their chest up during the whole flow except for when in straddle bat.
