Technique

  1. Step the feet apart about shoulder width, turn the right foot out 90 degrees and the left foot in slightly.
  2. Keep both legs straight as you reach the arms out from the shoulders.
  3. Bend at the right hip and take the right hand to the block.
  4. Reach the left arm straight up. Gaze at the top hand.
  5. Hold for 5 breaths.
  6. Stand up, rotate the feet and repeat on the other side.

Form tips

  1. The block can be on the inside (easier) or outside edge of the foot.
  2. Take care to keep the knees in line with the toes.
  3. Distribute the weight evenly across both legs and feet.
  4. Keep your hips and chest open to the side; avoid collapsing your chest toward the floor.
  5. If the neck is tight, gaze toward the foot instead of the top hand.
