Pelvic tilt

Pelvic tilt

Pelvic tilt is the orientation of the pelvis in respect to the thighbones and the rest of the body. The pelvis can tilt towards the front, back, or either side of the body.

In general, it is preferable to have a neutral pelvic tilt. But in many calisthenics exercises, the posterior pelvic tilt is encouraged to ensure proper core activation. This prevents arching the lower back, which is a common mistake and can possibly lead to lower back pain.

To have a posterior pelvic tilt, tuck your tailbone and squeeze your butt, so that the top of your pelvic moves back, and the bottom of the pelvic moves forward. You can think of it as pulling your bellybutton in towards your spine.
